CHELSEA WANTED £25MILLION FOR NIGERIAN
Fenerbache president Aziz Yildirim has confirmed that his club were priced out of a move for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel after the Premier League champions asked for £25million.
The Nigerian is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after struggling to make regular first-team appearances for Jose Mourinho‘s side since the arrivals of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas.
Mikel Expected to leave
Mikel is deemed fourth choice centre-midfielder at The Blues, behind the previously named duo and also behind Brazilian star Ramires.
However, a move away from West London could be in danger of falling through after Chelseaslapped a £25m price-tag on his head.
The 28-year-old has barely played for Mourinho‘s side over the past year, but the Portuguese manager still wants a hefty fee for the defensive midfielder.
Fenerbache Withdraw Interest
Speaking in a recent interview, Fenerbache‘s president admitted that the club had to withdraw their interest in Mikel after finding out Chelsea’s asking-price.
Yildirim was quoted as saying: ‘Chelsea want €35million for Mikel.
According to reports, the staggering asking price has lead to the Turkish side withdrawing their interest in the holding-midfielder.
Duo Swap England for Turkey
Fenerbache have already been busy in the transfer window, signing Nani from ManchesterUnited and potentially following that up by signing his team-mate Robin Van Persie.
However, Mikel doesn’t seem likely now.
