The Southampton and England right-back has just over a year left to run on his contract at St Mary's Stadium but the Saints director believes that he may very well extend terms
"The signs are good" that Manchester United target Nathaniel Clyne will sign a new contract atSouthampton, claims executive director Les Reed.
The former Crystal Palace full-back has had another outstanding season at St Mary's Stadium, earning his first international recognition and, as revealed by Goal, attracting the attention of the Red Devils.
Goal understands that Clyne, whose current deal is due to expire in 2016, has told United that he wants to join them this summer but Reed says that there is no panic about the defender's future.
He told talkSPORT: "We're in constant communication. These contract negotiations are never just one meeting, where everything is done and sorted out.
"You have to bear in mind, especially with Nathaniel, that we want him to focus on the last few games of the season. That's why you'll get players saying 'let's wait until the end of the season'.
"That's quite normal and he's very happy. He's managed to force himself into the England squad and is showcasing his talents.
"I'd be very surprised if there wasn't speculation about him but, at the moment, the signs are good."
